Meet Blanquita, a sweet 16 lb, 6-year-old terrier/Chihuahua mix looking for her forever home.

Blanquita came to us from Texas with a severely deformed right leg and paw, which ultimately had to be amputated. She’s now a tripod, and she is doing so well. Losing a leg certainly hasn’t stopped her from enjoying the good things in life, like chasing after her dog friends or squirrel enemies.

Blanquita loves lying in the sunshine, eating her breakfast and dinner, following the other dogs around to explore, and giving kisses to her human and animal friends. She’s a semi-low-energy girl who doesn’t need someone to wear her out with tons of exercise. She’d be perfectly happy curling up in your lap and keeping you company.

Blanquita currently lives and gets along with my 50 lb dogs. She also did great with a little puppy who she travelled with from Texas. Blanquita often follows the dogs around to what they do (get treats, head outside for potty, sunbathing on the deck, etc.), although, amusingly, she has declined to participate in their furious barking at everyone who passes the house. Blanquita is a fairly quiet little dog.

She’s also curious about the two cats here and would love to play with them. The cats have other opinions and either ignore her or run away. Blanquita remains hopeful. She’s friendly and curious with them, never aggressive.

She can be timid with people at first, so a home with small children probably wouldn’t be the best fit. Once she feels comfortable, though, she can be quite affectionate. She has some classic Chihuahua qualities, including trembling when she gets excited.

As a tripod, stairs are difficult for Blanquita. A home where she can spend most of her time on one level would be ideal. On the plus side, if there’s an area of your house you’d prefer to keep dog-free, a staircase is a pretty effective Blanquita barrier.

She is potty trained and crate trained and does well in her crate overnight and when her people are away from home.

Blanquita isn’t looking for an action-packed life. She’s looking for a soft place to land: sunshine, meals she can count on, animal friends to follow around, a lap to curl up in, and people whose faces she can kiss.

If your idea of the perfect dog is a quiet, affectionate, low-key little companion who gets a 25% discount on nail trims, Blanquita might be your girl.

She is spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $300.00. If you would like more information about Mellie, please email us at [email protected]. To apply to adopt, click HERE.

    interested in adopting?

The first step is for you to fill out an adoption application.  In order to meet and greet available dogs, we must receive a completed application. Approval for adoption requires a successful home visit and veterinary reference.  Applying to adopt and meeting a potential dog does not obligate you to adopt the dog you meet and greet.  If it is not a match for you or them, adoption will not take place.
