How it all got started
Our founder was involved in rescue for a few years when she noticed that senior and special needs dogs were being passed by in shelters by, not only potential adopters, but rescues as well. She felt that these dogs deserve a chance at a new life just as much as younger, more "normal" dogs. So, she decided to start a rescue that would work to help these dogs that are forgotten. She left her hometown and moved to the country into a rural setting and Project Hope was founded. After pulling a few dogs locally to Michigan , she saw the picture of Charlie one morning, who was ready to be euthanized in a very high kill Texas shelter. Not only was he a senior, but he was also missing a leg (a tripod) and it broke her heart. A group of wonderful people came together to save his life and he eventually made his way to Michigan and into his forever home. This picture of Charlie was the beginning of a new realization of the sheer numbers of dogs that are dying in shelters everyday in Texas, and that changed the focus of the rescue. Over the years, we have added a number of fosters, shelter volunteers, and transporters in Texas that want to help us save as many dogs as possible.
