Canela (formerly Navie) Then - by Amy, Canela's foster mom Navie was brought to the vet with extensive injuries to her pelvis. Instead of euthanizing her, the vet was able to convince her family to surrender her for rescue. Project Hope connected with her Tennesee foster mom and she flew up to Michigan for surgery and to find her forever family. Yes, that's right - she flew on a private plane! Thank you Pilots N Paws for the ride! It some time for Navie to complete her treatment, but the day after her final surgery, she was off to her forever family for the love and care that she had been waiting for. Canela Now - by Erica I adopted Canela (formerly Navie) from Project Hope the summer of 2020. She had been hit by a car and, thankfully, was rescued and given the multiple surgeries she needed to start on her path to recovery. When I adopted her she was just starting to walk comfortably and still needed help getting up stairs. I was fully prepared for life with Canela to be a lot of carrying my little pup around, but I am thrilled to say she made a FULL recovery and is now my running buddy, is often the star of the "zoomies" at the dog park, and handles the many flights of stairs at home better than I do! She is the sweetest, most lovable dog I could ever have imagined welcoming into my life. I am so beyond grateful to Project Hope for giving her a second chance! I feel so lucky that my first dog was Canela— a sweet gal that has been described by many as "a dog with training wheels" or the "easiest dog in the world." Because of her good nature, she's made many MANY friends and is able to have a full life of staycations with aunties and uncles, lots of accompanying yours truly when eating out and shopping and even working on her Off-Broadway debut :) and is always emphatically invited to any friend gathering. She loves the bison bones from the farmers market and lives for belly rubs. She does great in her K9 sack on bike rides through the city, can't wait for the off leash hours in Central Park, and loves snow more than anyone. Truly. I call her the mayor of New York, because she acts like she knows everyone in the city, and I'm certain one day she actually will. I love Canela so much and can't imagine my life without her. She has brought so much joy to my life, and I can honestly say to my friends' lives as well. Thank you Project Hope from Canela and I :)
