His enthusiasm for toys is only rivaled by his enthusiasm for food. Being so young he is a bit mouthy and if he can fit something in his mouth, he will so nothing on tabletops are safe. Shoes are meant to be carried throughout the house or hidden away in a crate. Cats are fun to chase and bark at so we are working at doing better about leaving them alone. Paco has the survival skills of a potato and does not care that he has to share his space with great danes and a cranky bulldog. He is very amicable to being put in a separate room with his crate while his foster parents are at work, and sleeps curled up in their bed at night, quiet as a mouse. He has had some potty issues, but that could be a result of adjusting to a new schedule and not being able to communicate his need to go out very well. That is being worked on and improving. He would do best in a home with kids, another dog close to his age or a person with an active lifestyle because he has energy for days. He came into the shelter with his siblings, but he wasn't as healthy as the others because he was dragging his back legs. Though he wasn't injured, the lack of good nutrition caused his bones to weaken. Never fear though! He is doing better now and has had no issues at all...he runs around like a normal puppy with puppy energy. He is 4 months old, around 17 lbs. Wylie is a 1 to 2 year old, 67-lb Great Pyrenees mix who has been doing wonderfully in foster care with structure, routine, and clear communication.
He has adjusted very well to a consistent daily routine and is proving to be a thoughtful, responsive young dog. Wylie has been introduced to a neutral female dog and does great with her — both dogs are polite, relaxed, and respectful of each other’s space. He is currently working through slow, structured introductions with other foster dogs. These introductions are done gradually with obedience incorporated into every interaction, and Wylie has been very receptive and eager to learn. Dog social skills: • Outdoors, through fencing, Wylie is friendly and playful. He often invites interaction with play bows and happy vocalizations. • Indoors, in neutral spaces, he remains calm, relaxed, and appropriately social, even when dogs are able to sniff through fencing. • He responds very well to high-value rewards and positive reinforcement during these interactions. In areas he considers more “his space” — such as his kennel area or the office — Wylie can show some context-based reactivity. This does not appear to be aggression. Instead, it’s consistent with territorial or barrier-related behavior that is likely learned over time rather than emotionally driven. This type of behavior is common and manageable with structure. His foster mom who is a dog trainer has already begun addressing this with clear boundaries, structured obedience, and consistent commands like “leave it” and “quiet,” paired with fair corrections and strong positive reinforcement. Wylie responds quickly and learns fast. Because of this, adopters should be aware that similar behaviors could surface during the typical three-month decompression period after adoption. With consistency, routine, and clear leadership, this behavior has proven very manageable.
